Got a new job. Exciting. Instead of being a code monkey for a local IT firm, I'm gonna be a code monkey for a big research institute. What I am most excited about, aside from the better pay, is that I'll have lots of cool toys and resources to play with. And I'll probably end up working on lots of cool projects. I'll be starting my new career (at ISR) by spending a week in North Carolina learning about Oracle. Doesn't sound like much fun, but hey, its on someone else's dime, so thats fine by me.
I took a liking to ISR right away, because not only do they employ all sorts of PhDs, but it is kinda expected that you continue your education while you work there. That means that most of the researchers are either working on their masters, or their PhD.
They also have a big 88 cpu cluster, flight simulators, and they are being funded for research on... get this... space elevators. How f$cking COOL is that?!?! And for those of you who haven't driven down I-79 through Fairmont, they are building a huge new state-of-the-art research facility. |
