Floridians can now keep guns locked in cars...
Actually, we could do it before the law was passed. Unwarranted searches were already illegal. All this law does, as I have said before, is makes sure that a company can't fire an employee for having a gun locked in their car. Basically it doesn't change what a person CAN do, but rather what some select companies CANNOT do.
As some gun-bloggers including myself have stated, the law itself is stupid and poorly executed. I'm just glad the NRA can spend their time, effort and money on things that are actually going to help maintain my Second Amendment rights.
Here are some suggestions:
Open carry (I know it'll scare Suzy Soccer Mom...)
Repeal of the handgun waiting period (which hasn't affected crime or reduced "crimes of passion")
Improved state preemption (why can counties shut down gun shows and require longer waiting periods?)
More CCW reciprocity agreements (still waiting on South Carolina!)
Get CCW licenses to replace NICS checks (if I'm allowed to own and carry a gun, why run a redundant check?)
Loosen where-you-can-carry restrictions (there are some stupid/annoying things still on the list.)
Lower CCW license fees ($115 isn't the worst, but it isn't cheap either.)
Clarify the legality of carrying firearms in various city/count/state parks (some locations "ban" firearms in violation of state preemption)
Clean up other laws that make firearms ownership an "at your own risk" venture within the state.
Pass an endangered assault weapons protection act (ok, I made that up... hehehe.)
Increase hunters education programs (they are hard to find near me.)
Get more land opened up for hunting in the state (I'm not a hunter, but mostly because it isn't convenient for me.)
Attempt to have the whole of Miami declared a superfund site, and have it entirely sealed off from the rest of the state by encasing it in concrete.
Ok, that last one is just wishful thinking, but the political landscape in Florida would be a helluva lot better without the northen-transplant Miami liberals constantly attempting to foul things up. |
