Just got back from the Technology Student Association (TSA) state conference. Fun as usual... same crappy mexican food at the Cozumel Restaurant (the only restaurant in Ripley, apparently, and a tradition for our yearly pilgrimage.) A lot of the regulars didn't make it this year (Hank, he has a kid now; Nathan, lost in time and space; Monica, in Alaska; Jason B., who knows...)
Joe and I went down to Neola, WV to go trout fishing as well. Talk about the middle of nowhere... Its really just down the road from White Sulpher Springs, which isn't _entirely_ in the middle of nowhere, but close.
Funny thing, on our way back up the dirt road that follows a particularly nice trout stream, we discover a (~30ft) pine tree has fallen across the road. It managed to fall in such a way that it couldn't be moved, and we couldn't drive around it.
Here is a picture.
I figure this was God's way of saying Joe and I needed some exercise. So we left the car on the dirt road and hiked back to his uncle's cabin (seemed like about 10 miles or so, but Joe has the actual GPS track, and can verify the exact distance.) We actually tried calling AAA, but A) they have no clue what to do about trees falling in the road, and B) have no clue where Neola is. I can excuse them for B, but they should be smart enough to find a towing company with a chain saw or something.
Anyway, after grabbing an axe and a cross-cut saw, we start hiking back to the car. After about 15 minutes, his uncle pulls up and tells us that he had, in fact, been stuck behind the same tree (we hadn't known he was out that road fishing as well) and had hacked it in half with a dull little axe he had in is truck.
So basically, we had a good walk.
Never did catch any fish.
We took Route 92 all the way from Neola to Reedsville. Its a pretty nice drive that actually goes passed a lot of the neatest things in WV. It goes by Cass Scenic Railroad, Greenbank (BIG Radio Telescopes, if ya don't know), White Sulpher Spring, The Greenbrier, (near) Snowshoe and Seneca.
Yep.
