Sometimes... ok, all the time... ultra-conservatism really pisses me off.
Here is an article (in the style of the all-to-cliche Top Ten List) by one of the worst organizations in the history of my favorite country trying to tell me about the "Ten Most Harmful Books of the 19th and 20th Centuries".
Now, before you click it, or read what they have to say, what kind of response does that title elicit? Exactly! What a bunch of book burning nazi scum! I really have a pointed dislike for anyone who labels the written word as harmful. Now read on and find that they are afraid of open discussion of sexuality, anti-women's rights, anti-science, and McCarthyist throwbacks.
"We aren't afraid of atom bombs, said Khruschev, and they know it! We aren't afraid of ANYTHING, except perhaps, a poet."
I find the need to point this out because our beloved freedom has been attacked on all sides by these "conservatives". I don't think that stabbing at the foundation of our country is a conservative value. |
