My new slogan for Microsoft SQL Reporting Services: "Software that is both astoundingly useful and stupendously retarded at the same time."
While my SQL-fu has been improving over the last few weeks (whipping out some 1337 dynamic sql, smuggling data across linked servers, passing around cursors as if they were drunken cheerleaders), I've found myself wanting to collectively kick the developers of Reporting Services in the naughty bits. Of course, without RS, these reports would have been done entirely by hand, and we wouldn't be half-way done developing them. But debugging just sucks, and source control is a pain in the arse since BIDS doesn't wire up to Team Foundation right.
So, while the time to deployment of some robust and feature-rich reports has been cut down significantly, my blood pressure has risen inversely. |
