Barack Obama tries to discuss abortion. I know, it isn't something to LOL at, but seriously... what the heck does this mean? When asked, "at what point does a baby get human rights?" he replied: Well ya know i think that whether, er, you're looking at it from a theological perspective or a scientific perspective, answering that question with specificity, uh, you know is, is, is above my paygrade. But, but, but let, let, let me speak more generally about the issue of abortion, because this is obviously something the country wrestles with. One thing that I'm absolutely convinced of is that there is a moral and ethical element to this issue, and so I think anybody who tries to deny the moral difficulties and gravity of the abortion issue, I think, is not paying attention. Did he say anything at all? I think... no. Reminds me of a song...
Although I'm not in 100% agreement with McCain, at least he answers in honest, non-waffling terms: At the moment of conception.
On the other hand, I don't think abortion ought to be a top priority in our national discourse. But, Obama states in the above-linked interview that he inserted abortion-related material into the latest revision of the party platform. So the hit he takes on this is all on his shoulders. Even though I'm not completely in the Republican camp on this one, I'll be happy to see it used against Barack Babies On Spikes Obama.
Oh, and "above my paygrade"? WHAT THE FUCK DUDE. YOU DIDN'T REALLY JUST SAY THAT DID YOU? |
