Ya know, for everything I have PeTA for, this is not one. Assuming they were actually able to purchase a SeaWorld or two and release the animals into the wild, I would actually support them in such an endeavour (at least compared to any of their other ones). Purchasing said SeaWorld would at least be an honest private property solution to further their goals, crazy as it may be or seem.
I don't disagree that this is better than trying to impose their will on the country via government regulations... but remember the only reason they aren't going that route is because they lack about 99 votes in the senate for any of their insane policies. Anything they do to gain notoriety or legitimacy is, simply put, bad for America.
I also disagree with them releasing captive animals into the wild where they will suffer and die. Sure, death happens in nature. But these animals would be at a distinct disadvantage, caused by us humans. When you take a beast into captivity and make it domestic, it becomes your responsibility. We have a humane responsibility to care for those animals.
Or to eat them. But sea otters don't taste nearly as good as they look.
