Per suggestions from memebers of LocoGringo.com, here are a few additional suggestions for a travel checklist:
-bug spray (depends on time of year i guess)
-hydrocortisone cream (i usually keep some of that around)
-plastic bags (to put wet or leaky stuff in)
-good sandals (tevas/chacos) instead of sneakers
-beach toys (i disagree with this one... more wasted space)
-extra books and magazines (i just take one or two really big books)
-games/deck of cars (rainy day or bored at the airport)
-less shorts than I originally suggested... many people said 3 pairs of light-weight, fast-drying shorts.
-locogringo cooler!
Other things to put under the "When you are in the Riviera Maya" heading is that you should walk past everyone in the airport (once you get through customs, that is!) because they are all trying to sell you a timeshare, or get you an overpriced cab. Just ignore all of them. It kinda goes against my nature to ignore someone who is talking to me, but it is the only way to get past some of these people.
