Craigslist robbery.
People buy and sell items via Craigslist all the time, but you have to be smart about it. Would you ever invite a complete stranger into your home under normal circumstances? Then why do it just because they say they say they want to buy your XBox?
There is always some amount of risk involved when dealing with strangers, valuable goods, and cash, but you can use common sense when conducting CL transactions:
Meet in an open, public location if possible
Meet where there are other people nearby
Meet during the day
Don't meet anyone alone
Be aware of your surroundings
Don't bring large quantities of cash
Don't be afraid to back out if something feels wrong
Don't implicitly trust anyone you meet online
Always make sure you know where your assets and liabilities are, and where possible escape routes are.
Finally, know how to defend yourself.
I buy and sell on Craigslist all the time, but I don't ever allow myself to get into dangerous situations. Any time someone has come to my house to pick up an item, I have had the item in the garage, with the doors to the house locked. I have always followed the above rules. I have also always been armed when buying or selling something from a stranger, and I've always had contingency plans in case something went wrong. As they say, be polite but have a plan to kill everyone you meet.
Update:
These pissants used pellet guns and could have lost their lives over an XBox, had they chosen the wrong house. A lot of people say that guns make criminals think twice about committing a crime. I think, in general that is true. But these criminals were too goddamn stupid to realize that they risked their already meaningless lives for something as trivial as a video game. |
