Peter takes his wife to the trap range.
I've found that clay sports are often a great way to introduce new shooters. It is exciting and fast paced, so they won't get bored. The targets are reactive... and extremely satisfying when they go "poof". Anyone can hit targets their first time out. Just make sure you keep it fun, and keep recoil in check:
Used as light a load as you can get away with.
20ga is good for smaller framed and young shooters.
A semi-auto or a heavier over-under will reduce felt recoil even further. A single-barrel or pump gun will have a significant kick.
A shooting vest with a padded-shoulder, and/or a butt pad (limb-saver or something similar) helps a lot, especially if you intend to shoot more than one round. |
