Today was a pretty awesome day all around. Greg and I got up and went to the Silver Dollar Shooting Club. We've been wanting to shoot trap for a long time and this is the first time we had finally gotten around to going. Keep in mind that this is only my 3rd time shooting shot guns. But I love them!!!! Give me a 12ga over a pistol any day of the week. We got there and bought some ammo and two rounds at the range. Since we hadn't been there before and since we had only ever shot shot guns in the backwoods of West Virginia, we had the range office help us out. He directed us over to a station and explained how there are 5 different positions and 5 rounds at each one. He said just yell pull and the system will know to launch a flying clay into the sky. He did suggesst however that I shoot the pump shot gun over the break-action single-shot because it might kick too hard for me. *huge eye roll* Next he'll be suggesting that I carry a .22 because anything else would be too much for me to handle. *snicker* Anyway, we got to our stations and got going. It was a little rough the first round since I kept forgetting to track not aim. I also wasn't caring too much for the pump action so even though it might kick hard I switched with Greg.
Well the guy was right, it was a bad idea....for Greg. I totally schooled him in the second round. Out of 25 shots greg hit 12. Out of 25 shots for me I hit, 20!!! Woohoo! Here's a picture of Greg shooting from the armpit. Maybe that's why he didn't do so well...
There is just something so great about blowing a clay pigeon away. I just let me mind go and just felt it. It really did help to stop thinking and use my intuition. It definitely helped. Maybe that's why my woman brain beat Greg's man brain. He just can't seem to stop thinking. Well, it was a great time and I really hope to go again soon.
So after a lot of shooting we came home to quilt! Yes, quilt. I know most of you got really confused on that segue, so try to keep up. I'm making a memory quilt with pictures (printed on special photo-cloth) of family and friends growing up and using an old set of sheets I remember my parents having growing up that mean a lot to me. Greg has been a big help actually since he grew up with a quilting mom. I've been sewing blocks most of the rest of the day and Greg's been cutting for me. It goes a lot faster when you have help.
Today is kind of a really good view into how we lead out lives. We both have seperate interests, but we always work together on them. I listen to constant gun talk and shooting sports and he helps me sew and paint. It's a pretty great partership we have going. So, I'll keep working on the quilt and hopefully we'll keep shooting and I'm sure there will be more pictures of both to come in the future.
