Last night, Beth said: "Going to the pistol range is like going to the doctor's office... you have to do it regularly, but it isn't that much fun. Shooting shotguns at flying clay targets is fun."
I understand the sentiment. Some people look at handgun shooting as a sport, but I'd wager most handgun owners see them merely as a last-ditch self defense tool. And if you are going to own a handgun for self defense, you have to train with it. I personally enjoy doing some blasting at the range, as it lowers my stress level... but that's not the same as really focusing on your stance, grip, sight picture, and trigger.
Trap shooting, on the other hand, is pure entertainment. It are only "practical training" if you are a wing hunter, which we are not (and then, you'd be better off spending your time doing sporting clays or five-stand.) |
