For those of you whom I have not yet told, I just started a new job at Tygart Technology on Monday. So far, so good. It looks like I'm gonna have a lot of 10+ hour days ahead. The CEO is a real no-nonsense, nose-to-the-grindstone, and other-hyphenated-words-too sort of guy. Of course, every now and then, I need a good coffee-infused manic struggle to get software out the door within a tight schedule. Gets the blood pumping.
I left my previous employer for a few reasons...
Numero Uno: Tygart made me one hell of an offer. Now, the goodness wasn't entirely money, of course... I mean, that helps... but I have a better job title, and I enjoy working for small companies where I have more input in the processes, a closer-knit team, and less bureaucratic crap to deal with.
Numero Dos: I didn't have to move to F***ing northern Virginia. I had a huge offer there. Well over twice what I made at ISR with excellent job security. But the job was boring, and it was in F***ing northern Virginia. The "F*** northern Virginia" post will come later when I actually have to move there. If you are interested, look through the history of Karokajoka's blog. After I accepted the job at Tygart, I got calls from places in Fort Wayne and Dayton... uh, sorry, not really as nice as good ol' dub-vee
Numero Tres: Need a change of scenery from time to time. Granted ISR just moved into this giant, shiney, new world-class facility... and my office overlooked a lovely terrace... and now I'm back in a cube... but its a nice cube.
Numero Quatro: Wasn't particularly happy with the project I was on. It was promised that I would be moved back to my original team next year, but...
Number Cinco: ...who knows if ISR/WVHTF will be around in a year. If Daddy Mollohan doesn't get re-elected, that entire side of the interstate will probably sink into a big hole. I'm not saying that will happen for sure... they are still doing good work there. And he'll get re-elected anyway.
I will certainly miss my co-workers... I made a lot of good friends while working there, but there is always softball season.
That about sums it up. Moving forward with my career. Making more money. Living the American Dream. |
