    Old, Familiar Smells Comment
    Gregory Morris, 10/12/08 5:07:03 pm
For the last few months, I had been cleaning/lubing my guns with some generic "all-in-one" thing. It sucks. I hate it. But it was "good enough" and I didn't feel like switching to another product just because the guy at the gun shop says it is the best thing since Hoppes #9.

Well, I found an old half-full bottle of Hoppes #9 today when I started cleaning my shotguns after our normal post-church trapshooting. So I used it instead.

There's something about Hoppes that I can't quite put my finger on. It does a great job, as it did for my father, but that smell conjures some of my happiest memories. My dad's gun cleaning kit had the exact same little bottle of Hoppes that I have now.

I've tried fancy-shmancy "modern" crap. Everyone has their preference I guess.

For me, old Hoppes #9 works great and makes me smile ever time I open the bottle.

That's what is used in the field more than anything. Does the trick.

I love it, the Mrs. hates the smell.

So I clean outside or when she's not at home. I love H#9!

Of course, I lube the Glock with wheel bearing grease which smells like solidified ass...

Beth hates the smell too, regardless of my repeated attempts to get her to wear it as perfume :)

Hoppe's #9 does for me as well, even though I've only started buying and shooting real guns since 2002. I wonder if it'll take care of athlete's foot....

    Amen, brother Greg!

I\'ve never strayed from good ol\' #9. It\'s been keeping the G. armory clean since 1994; I see no reason to change just for the sake of change.

Hmmm. Seems that applies for many reasons, eh?
    Natural Ingredients

Someone once told me that Hoppe's #9 is made from turpentine. That means it is distilled from pine tree sap. I detect a faint citrus odor when I use it.

It reminds me of hiking in the deep woods, but that might just be emotional association because I'm usually armed when I go wandering in the wild.
