I mentioned that I bought a rifle the other day. This rifle is a Remington 740, which is a semi-automatic hunting rifle chambered in the venerable .30-06. They also made it in a few other calibers, with some different options. Mine came with a scope a braided leather hippy sling, and a soft case that looks like someone's grandmother picked it out.
When I found this one for sale, I did a little research and found it was manufactured between 1955 and 1959. I have a C&R collectors license, which requires me to put any acquisitions or dispositions of C&R firearms into my boundbook. A (non-NFA) firearm becomes a C&R automatically at age 50. So when I picked up the rifle, I immediately checked the barrel markings against this.
Turns out my rifle turns 50 years old this month.
Happy birthday, rifle! And welcome to my bound book. |
