Question: "stupid gun laws"
Answer: Well, you have about 20,000 to choose from give or take. There's no way I could even scratch the surface. The problem is, any time a law is passed in an attempt to prevent crime, it is ultimately doomed to fail. Laws should only be passed which give the people the means to prosecute an individual who has deprived others of their natural rights.
So, that means there is no such thing as a "common sense gun law", because anything criminal you can do with a gun can be handled via other more appropriate laws. Murder, armed robbery, assault, etc. A criminal may use a gun to commit these crimes, however a gun is not necessary. It is the intention of the criminal, rather than the gun, that causes the act.
On the other hand, what a "stupid gun law" actually does is strip away the inherent right of an individual to protect themselves, their family, and their property. To put it succinctly, Joe Huffman asks Just One Question:
Can you demonstrate one time or place, throughout all history, where the average person was made safer by restricting access to handheld weapons?
Laws that make it illegal to possess handheld weapons might make it harder for a criminal to acquire one, but not impossible. Someone who intends to commit a violent crime will do so regardless of the law. That is common sense. |
