Compare the Supreme Court's ruling which states: The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home. (emphasis added) to the statement on Obama's website: Barack Obama believes the Second Amendmenet creates an individual right, and he respects the constitutional rights of Americans to bear arms. (emphasis added) To someone who doesn't know anything about the constitution, this may not seem like a big deal, but believe me it is. Our nation was founded on the belief that there are unalienable rights which are both natural and individual. That cannot be disputed. Obama does not believe our constitution protects those unalienable rights. He believes the constitution "creates" them.
His inability to understand the concept of natural rights which exist regardless of the constitution should be a concern to anyone who would consider voting for him. His concept of a "right" is something given by the government. My concept of a "right" is something the government was formed to protect. |
