Orlando officials have launched a $10,000 campaign to scare off migrating cormorant birds that are fouling up the downtown area with their smelly and unsightly droppings.
Too bad cormorants don't taste good.
The amusing thing about all this is the city paid $14k to clean up after them last year.
This year they'll spend a portion of that, plus the $10k to scare them away with stupid-looking, loud, obnoxious whiz-bang doo-dads.
Next year, in addition to the cleaning fees, and the doo-dads, PETA will pitch a fit since the scare tactics might cause the birds psychological trauma, so the city will spend half a million relocating the birds.
The following year, they'll still have to clean up after the birds, and pay to relocate the birds, but they'll spend another million studying and improving the relocation environment. Animals will be captured, tagged, and tracked. Grants will be written to test new methods of bird behavior modification.
And in the end, the city will still have to clean up bird shit. |
