LabRat:...the proper reaction is not to first demand a place at the table, and then go on to piss on everyone else’s plate. Now, that isn't to say that religious outlets don't decry atheism as entirely wrong... they certainly do. Nothing wrong with that either. LabRat's excellent point is that when someone is wishing you well, in a friendly, celebratory manner, be thankful for it. If someone of the Baha'i faith were to wish me a cheerful Birth of Baha'u'llah day (or whatever they call it), I'll thank them kindly. I don't have to believe the same things as they do to accept the positive intent of their wishes. I don't see it as them forcing their beliefs onto me. LabRat's admonition is dead on: Being a minority is not some sort of crime society commits against you... Yes, I still get bent out of shape when certain elements of the backwoods faith tries to impose their inane brand of creationism on our schools. The fact is, I'll stand side-by-side with atheists to fight against that kind of nonsense.
But if you can't tell the difference between being told "Merry Christmas" and being martyred, then you simply don't have common sense on your side. |
