    Even if she is an atheist heathen*, it is a breath of fresh air to hear an intelligent scientist (as opposed to the other kind)
    arguing that science and religion are not mutually exclusive.     In fact, the one has very little to do with the other.

    Unfortunately, there are religious types who find one aspect of scientific knowledge to be abhorrent, and therefore discount all of it. Likewise, there are scientists who treat the tome of scientific knowledge like a religious book. They are more likely than not to be the same types who forget scientific rigor and put their faith in earlier works (I call it "clinging to Ptolemy".)

    Holier-than-thou religious nutballs. Snotty atheist scientists. For the record, I don't like either type.

    It never ceases to disappoint, the religious and the scientific, splitting hairs. Religion is about what God did. Science is the study of how he did it.

    As children of God, it is my view that our father expects us to someday grow up and take over the family business. It is good that he's very patient.

    Science explains the "what" and the "how", not the "why". I'm one of those atheist heathens and I've never had a conflict between the two. Scientists who believe their knowledge and insights are beyond question are, in fact, creating a religion.

    By the same stripe, those religious folks who argue against science because it can't be "proven" or it is just a "theory" never paid attention in science class and have totally missed the point.

    Despite being an agnostic, why can't certain religious folks find awe and grandeur in the Universe, especially with the words "Let there be light..." and everything that followed. Admittedly a nitpick is that photons (and hence light) didn't emerge from the primordial soup of the Big Bang under ~300,000 years later but why quibble?
