I daydream sometimes, as does very gun-nut who is too broke to fill the holes in his collection. Actually, I don't even really have a collection, just a few guns and a dream *g*.
Some kind of semi-auto AK. I heard that WASRs are crap, but they are real cheap (see them new under $300 from time to time.) I heard STG-2000s aren't bad, and Inter Ordnance has them for $400. There are tons to choose from, and you can spend anywhere from $250 to ... lots.
Kar 98k - mil-surp fetish. This will look nice next to my M44 and my Yugo SKS.
M91-30 - I love my M44 flamethrower, but I'd like one without the integral Bayonet.
In fact, there are all sorts of collectibles out there.. tula, ishevsk, octagon barrel, laminated stock, on and one, endless possibilities.
Some day I'll inherit my dad's Remington M91 (made in 1918 in the US for Czar Nicholas, to fight the Bolshevik bastards.) This is a great pre-commie "commie-gun". This was my first "training" gun, since my dad kept it out when I was young as a conversation piece.
Really, just about any Commie-gun.
Nagant revolvers are still dirt cheap, so I may just pick up one of those.
I guess with this love of milsurps I should get my C&R license so I can just mail order this stuff.
M1 Garand - if they weren't so friggin' expensive. That's why I bought my SKS in the first place...
M1 Carbine - they are cute, and I've seen 'em pretty cheap.
While I'm at it, a Lee-Enfield.
1911 - every gun nut needs at least one. Some of the new tricked-out ones are pretty fantastic, but honestly, I'd prefer a milsurp. go figure.
Maybe I've been doing too much reading at Surplus Rifle.
A good revolver. The Nagant isn't for carry or defense, just fun and show. I like a lot of the ones Taurus makes, and they are quite affordable. My buddy's ultra-light Taurus .38 is super-nice.
A big revolver. The first time I took my wife to the handgun range, a gentleman there let her shoot a few of his guns. He had a 1911, and a .45 revolver (which also shot .45ACP using those half-moon clips.) The wife loved the revolver, and shot tiny little groups with it. I think she also liked it because it was really shiny (that kinda reminds me... i bet she'd like one of these or these as well.)
Some kind of pocket gun. I have a Bersa Thunder .380 for CCW, but in a holster, it is still to bulky for swim-trunks and a t-shirt. NAA has a line of nice little pocket revolvers (.22 mag, etc.) I subscribe to the theory, "a wimpy little gun is better than no gun."
I still don't own a shotgun. I know, kinda odd right? Well before I moved to FL, I had 3 shotguns at my house. A Remington 878 auto that belongs to my dad... it just sat in his attic collecting dust, so I used it for skeet (backwoods, my own thrower, fun... not competition or anything.) A really nice 12 Ga Ruger O/U that belongs to my father-in-law. I was holding on to it since he was moving and didn't want it to get lost. The O/U was my wife's favorite gun (she likes the BIG boom! and the weight of 2 barrels helps control the kick more than my Dad's auto) I also had my father-in-law's antique 20Ga pump, which we never used much, since the ejector was kinda screwy (you had to slam the pump hard to cycle the shells.) But alas, I returned them all to their proper owners, leaving me without a scattergun.
So, what kind of shotgun do I need? Well, a good pistol-grip short (but legal) scary black home defense pump shotgun. Nothing is as scary to a would-be burglar as the cha-chink! of a shell being cycled into the chamber of a 12Ga pump.
Ok, I also want an O/U... mostly for my wife. She loves killing clay pigeons.
Oh, and I just realized something... I don't own a .22 rifle. Everyone needs a .22 rifle. What the hell is my problem?
I always just borrowed my dad's antique single-shot. It is pretty much a "toy" gun (i know, i know... but you should see it.) He got when he turned 13 from his father (not until he was able to prove he could hit a bottle cap at 30 paces though.) It was old when he got it (made in the mid 30s I think.) Really neat. Lots of history. But I think I'll get something with a thicker barrel and a scope.
Is that enough? Probably not. And who knows when I'll have the cash on hand to buy even one of these. Between fishing trips to Canada, vacations to Mexico, and our recent move, my paycheck barely has a chance to hit the bank account before it is spoken for.
I don't have a deer rifle on there, although some of the milsurps make good deer rifles (no i'm not putting a scope on them... maybe when I can afford that Mosin Nagant PE/PU rifle.) I've never really gotten into hunting, but who knows, I probably will some day.
Of course, I also daydream about owning Class III weapons, but heaven knows that is a huge pain in the butt, and I'll probably never do it. |
