Mountaineers are always free. Regardless of what the Brady Campaign wants.
From Jim Mullins, President of the West Virginia Citizen's Defense League: Now, how did West Virginia manage to earn 4 points from the Brady bunch?
1. West Virginia does not preempt gun bans by state colleges & universities. Although West Virginia state law does not prohibit carrying on a college or university campus, we also do not have a law that prevents state colleges & universities from thumbing their noses at the Legislature and law-abiding gun owners by banning guns on these publicly-owned campuses. WVCDL is working to change that with a preemption reform bill that will be introduced soon after the legislative session begins next Wednesday.
2. Unlike Alaska, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, and Oklahoma, West Virginia law does not protect law-abiding gun owners who keep a gun in their personal vehicle from any gun bans imposed by the owner of any publicly-accessible parking lot—such as a private business that does not permit its employees to carry at work or even have a gun locked in their cars. However, due to the large number of important issues we are already pursuing and the resources we have, this issue is not on our legislative agenda at this time.
The Brady bunch gave us 2 points for each of these issues. Remember, the legislative session begins in 6 days and Lobby Day is just 25 days away! WVCDL's goal is to eliminate two of the four "Brady Points" that WV got. Once that is done, they'll go after the other two. |
