According to the SP Times Article which lists George LeMieux's stance on various issues: Gun control: Supports the right to bear arms with "reasonable restrictions on gun shows." "Florida's laws need to be changed so that the same waiting periods apply to gun shows as gun shops." Either LeMieux doesn't understand the issue, doesn't understand the law, or he is just another anti-gun politician.
Florida state law applies the same at gun shows as it does at gun shops, except that counties may enact certain more strict policies. Purchasing a handgun from a dealer always requires a minimum waiting of 3 days unless the purchaser has a concealed weapon permit. Florida CWPs indicate that the individual has undergone training and a thorough background investigation. Federal law states that all firearms purchases from gun dealers, regardless of where the transfer occurs, requires a federal background check.
In addition, Florida law permits counties to increase the waiting period to 7 days, and to include long guns in the mandatory waiting period.
Our other Senator, Democrat Bill Nelson, is no friend of the Second Amendment. Now it seems that Florida Governor and 2010 Senate Candidate Charlie Crist has burdened our state with another Senator who doesn't care enough about our right to bear arms to speak intelligently about the topic.
Thanks Charlie. We'll remember this during the primaries. |
