Pant Shitting Hysteria in Charleston, WV Comment
    Gregory Morris, 5/3/10 11:27:33 am
There is a good'n'ripe shit-filled diaper gracing the pages of the Sunday edition of the Charleston Gazette.

Wow. I am truly amazed that even the most hell-bent-on-being-biased newspaper could muster the nerve to print something so mind-blowingly idiotic. This unsigned editorial demonstrates no reason what-so-ever. I haven't done a point-by-point fisking in a while, but seeing as who this is actually coming out of my home state, I can't resist.

Any criminal, drunk, psycho, addict, teenager or other unsuitable American can attend a gun show and buy deadly pistols from amateur dealers -- no questions asked. Such informal sales don't require background checks of the sort performed by licensed dealers.
We also let those same criminals buy cars, which are arguably more deadly. For that matter, we'll happily hand our keys over to a hormone-addled 16 year old, even though they can't be trusted to purchase a squirrel gun.
Since America is saturated with about 70 million handguns, it's easy for these weapons to flow through makeshift booths and tables of gun galas, then join the flood of illicit pistols on U.S. streets, where they cause a bloodbath.
Saturated? Hyperbole much? And since when did guns, of their own accord, "cause a bloodbath". Clearly you have never been to a gun show if you think they are some kind of devious back-alley criminal black market.
The Gun Show Loophole Closing Act, pending several years in Congress, would force amateur dealers to perform background checks before making sales. But timid senators and representatives, terrified by the gun lobby, hesitate to support it.
Firearms dealers must be licensed and perform background checks no matter where they sell guns. There is no such thing as an "amateur dealer". There is such a thing as a citizen exchanging his lawfully owned property with another citizen for money. Ain't America great?
However, the bipartisan Mayors Against Illegal Guns is waging a crusade for passage. On April 20, city leaders staged a rally for the proposed law.
Mayors Against Guns is not bi-partisan, nor are there enough of them to even attempt at having a decent rally. The fact is, most Americans don't want the bill. There is no inclination to pass pointless gun control bills in Washington because, well, it would be pointless.
New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said: [blah blah blah]
Boston Mayor Thomas Menino added: [yackity shmackity]
Those two names should tell you right away who you are dealing with. Do you expect to find a sympathetic ear in West Virginia? Good luck.
America's pistol murder rate is vastly higher than the toll in other advanced democracies. The reason isn't because Americans are more criminal -- it's because the other nations sensibly keep dangerous weapons out of dangerous hands.
What the fuck is an "advanced democracy"? America is the greatest nation on earth, and we got that way through the blessings of Liberty. Those other nations you are referring to (England, Japan, etc.) don't just keep guns out of dangerous hands. They keep them out of all hands. I know that is the goal of Mayors Against Guns.
Since America is infested with millions of murder instruments,
Guns aren't "murder instruments" if they are being used to guard innocent life, you cretin.
we don't know whether control laws ever can reduce the death toll.
You aren't sure if the law will help... seeing as how 40 years of gun control also hasn't helped. I know, let's just try it again instead of doing something that will reduce crime!
But conscientious leaders should keep trying. Closing the gun show loophole would be a plausible step.
Yes, shutting down all private sales of firearms is a plausible step toward your end goal of complete citizen disarmament. We get that. Conscientious leaders have tried it. Gun control is a failure, and not only that, while it is failing it also deprives lawful citizens of their right to self defense. Conscientious leaders should tell Mayor Bloomberg and his mush-brained cronies to get bent.

I am thinking you can omit who the specific mayor of NYFC or Boston is and still convey what sort of person we are dealing with.

I think that one can make a case that Japan and England only keep guns out of the non-dangerous hands. The murder rates in England are rising while ours is falling...
