Working 12 hours a day, 7 days a week isn't a big deal, once you are used to it. What really drains you is constantly going between condition yellow and condition orange most of the day. Even when I'm fishing here, I am constantly scanning the horizon, checking my six, listening for odd noises, and looking for things that don’t seem right. When I'm listening to music with headphones on, I leave one speaker off my ear so I can hear warning sirens. When I'm driving, I am always paying close attention to other vehicles, pedestrians, piles of trash near the road, and anything that may have changed recently. There are credible threats here that make unbroken "condition orange" situational awareness paramount. Cooper says you should live in condition yellow unless there is an immediate potential threat.
That's all fine and good, but everyone needs a condition white vacation from time to time, especially while fishing. |
