A lot of people like to rail on legislators from Massachusetts, California and New York for being liberal-minded whack-jobs. I believe it is high time we give Illinois some due credit. I mean, there is an election coming up, and one of the front-runners is a dyed-in-the-wool Illinois Leftard. Perhaps we need to keep as close an eye on the Midwest foolishness as we do the New England and West Coast insanity.
Chicago is requiring a license that costs fifty smackers per whole, un-neutered dog. Of course, a quick "snip snip", and your poor doggy doesn't need this particular license anymore.
Putting a tax on dog ownership is one thing. Terribly unconstitutional, yes, but nobody pays the damn things anyway... it is the easiest form of civil disobedience.
The stated goal for this kind of regulation however, is far beyond lunacy. I'm all for getting your dog fixed, if you so choose, but how do they get off requiring it? See, leftists like to think that taxes and regulations are going to fix problems like dogs attacking people. Yes, that's their logic! Put a tax on dog testicles, and it should fix the epidemic of deadly dog attacks. Hah! First of all, I'll bet you anything there isn't any more of a dog attack problem in Chicago than there is in Bumsville Idaho or Chickenfart Missouri. My guess is that the tax was put there in the first place because some kid got chewed on by a big scary black dog, and there was public outrage. (Not unlike their outrage at big scary black guns... *ahem*) Oh yeah, and um... the city wanted to find something else to tax. Once again, it is heartfelt story of socialist moon-bats making the government our savior and protector against even the smallest of day-to-day ills.
...he's forming a task force of dog lovers to explore ways to "add value" to the dog license by providing owners with information on dog laws...
*GROAN* task-force of dog lovers. Chicago dog lovers probably can't afford a bigger dog tax, what with all the doggie daycare, doggie spas, doggie school and doggie prozac they are paying for.
Why don't they just admit they need more money to enforce those Foie Gras and Trans Fat bans?
