I guess since Fred Thompson has started making the news, it is probably time for me to start doing some research. From what I've seen, he's a pro-gun, small-government southern conservative. Not quite Ron Paul, but he's certainly better than McCain or Giuliani. I'll start digging, and put him up against my list of important issues to see where he stands. So far, I think the only way he is better than Paul is electability. Oh yeah, and I really like Law and Order.
Ron Paul is shat bit crazy. He talks some good points, but he's a "Truther" and that just doesn't sit well with me.
Fred has a few weak points, but so far they're outweighed by his good points.
I need to make a list that indicates my preferences on politicians, their weight in my deciding, and whether or not the politicritter has any power to actually effect it one way or the other. I should make that public too. Keep myself honest.
I never said Ron Paul wasn't loony... That's why I want him in the White House! As much as I hate folks like Hillary Clinton, she is certainly _NOT_ crazy... in fact, she's meticulous and calculated to the nth degree. That just scares me, because only robots should act like that.
Oh, and I'd also think that Paul would veto about 98% of the legislation sent to him by congress. That's what a good president should do.
As for the whole "He's a truther" bit.... no, I really don't think so. I think he said something to the effect of "I don't really trust anything the government says" when questioned about it. So yeah, I'm on board with that.
"Not trusting" and "Constantly demanding tangible, quantifiable, empirical evidence, while simultaneously distorting facts and making wild accusations" are two entirely different things. I'm happy to live my life based on some assumptions, because I'd never get anything done otherwise. But I also prefer to be cautious of anything coming out of a massive bureaucracy.
Still, no candidate is gonna be perfect (unless I ran, of course) so I'm just trying to pick the one who will do the least amount of damage.
