While this one has a lot of the same old liberal confusion as most of what we see from the Washington Post, it also has some good positive quotes from people who seem to know what they are talking about.
Get this, even the Brady Campaign gets in on this one:"If you are protecting yourself or your family in self defense, that's a basic legal right anyway," said Elizabeth Haile, an attorney for the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.
Wow. One of the quotes I was kinda put off by was actually a pro-gun republican:Former Republican state Rep. Dennis Baxley, who sponsored Florida's bill, argues that the law was needed to empower citizens.
The law isn't there to empower citizens, it is there to prevent prosecution and litigation for exercising a fundamental human right.
Anyway, if your read all the way until the end, you'll see the prosecutor pressed charges against this guy even though he didn't think the defendant was in the wrong. That seems kinda silly to me, because the law is pretty clear. Well, ok, it isn't clear according to Attorney Jon Gutmacher. But my right is clear to me... if someone attacks, I am allowed to defend myself and my family. |
