Read some more liberally biased bovine excrement here.
Congress didn't ignore the Mayors Against Illegal Guns. They (Democrats and Republicans alike) paid close attention to Bloomberg's ranting and incoherent raving, then told him in no uncertain terms to go to hell.
Yet, even now, the MSM continues to cover incorrect facts spewed by leftist nutballs. "Cops can't get the information they need to solve crimes!" Bullshit. They can. It says they can. That's the point. You know what the Tiahrt Amendment does? It keeps politicians from getting their hands on data that doesn't concern them. It prevents them from getting this data because:
A) politicians are really bad about leaking information to the press, when it suits them. That can get under-cover cops killed. Regardless, this data is often marked LES/LIMDIS. Law Enforcement Sensitive. Limited Distribution. Those markings are there to insure that the press doesn't get their grubby paws on information regarding active investigations.
B) They will use the information, not to stop crime (which isn't their job, by the way) but rather to go after an industry that they happen to be afraid of. Lawsuits against gun dealers are only one means to their goal of making it impossible for anyone to buy a gun.
The BATFE wants the restriction of information in place, not just to keep their investigations safe, but also because once a politician demands, and gets, one class of data, they'll want the rest. That means instead of getting their jobs done, and keeping illegal guns out of the hand of criminals, they will be busier dealing with the demands of politicians.
The FOP wants the restriction in place to keep cops from getting killed because politicians are irresponsible.
I want the restriction in place because I don't want some North East mayor suing my local gun dealer. |
