Clinton Demands Pentagon Plan for Withdrawal
Since when does a member of Congress have the right to demand anything of the Pentagon? All Congress is allowed to do is determine what money they get. Everything else comes from the Commander in Chief, who, last time I checked, lives in the White House.
I don't like Bush for a lot of reasons. I don't agree with some of his foreign policy. His immigration bill was a scam. His denial of stem-cell research funds is blindingly retarded. I could go on and on.
However, it is dangerous for members of Congress to think they can make demands of the Pentagon. Before long, they'll nitpick every last bit of the operation of our nation's defense, and that would simply be catastrophic. The DoD is already bureaucratic enough without legislators butting in. If control of our armed forces moved from the Executive Branch to the Legislative, nothing would get done, even more money would be wasted, and every last one of our good intelligence sources would be destroyed.
Thankfully, Hillary's statements here are nothing more than calculated political pandering. I have just barely enough faith in the American population to believe enough people will see through her hogwash and vote for someone who gives a damn about our country. |
