Just got back from the range. Cleaned my SKS, M44 and Bersa. I now smell like a mix of burnt nitrocellulose, Hoppes #9, and cosmoline. I love it. I'd bet Robb does too. My poor old rifles are still bleeding cosmoline in copious amounts, despite my best efforts to get them clean.
Shot decent. Need more practice. Still flinching too often (especially with the 7.62x54.) I have decent vision, but I was having a hard time seeing the targets and the sights in one picture. I don't know if I'm just getting old (heh heh) and my sight is failing, or if I'm doing something wrong. Its never really been a problem before.
Anyway, I still managed to shoot about 5 inch groups at 15 yards with my .380 and cheapo range ammo, which is "good enough for me". The gun itself was never terribly accurate. All those pretty Glocks and XDs at the shop were oh so tempting. Also the set screw for the adjustable sight and one of the grip screws are a little loose, so I need to get some locktite for them. I also put a magazine of Cor-bons through it to see if they feed OK. They did. The only ammo that hasn't fed perfectly is the Winchester flat-nose FMJ stuff.
I put about half my shots with the SKS on the paper at 100 yards, sitting at the bench. Given the eye problems I was experiencing, I'd say that's pretty good. At 50 yards I was able to keep about half my shots in the black, when I didn't flinch.
I've never shot the darned M44 very straight... bayonet folded or not. Today was pretty miserable though. Usually I can shoot a 5 inch group at 50 yards. Today I was doing well to hit the paper at all. Ah well, I guess that means more practice.
I need to check out some of the ranges closer to me though, because driving all the way across town is a pain in the butt... even if I go there straight from work. |
