Blatantly stolen title from ACE...
Anyway, I was just watching Spaceballs... and I noticed the "troops" were carrying actual firearms. I only noticed it, because I saw a few models of this particular firearm at Shoot Straight during my last trip to the range.
Its kinda funny, because these weapons look so strange and futuristic, you'd assume they were laser guns before even considering that maybe they are nice little high capacity carbines.
Anyway, I spent about 2 minutes looking for a screen capture showing the gun, and I couldn't find one, so I'll just give you the answer: The troops in the movie were carrying Calico M100 carbines, with the scope attachment. Neat little guns... neat concept. I'm sure there are drawbacks to the design (because they never really caught on), but since I'm not about to pony up the 700-800 bucks they cost, I can't really tell you first hand.
