I am totally OK with a political candidate changing their minds. I'm not one of those "Oooooh looky! He FLIP FLOPPED! Let's lynch him!" kinda guys. Nobody is saying a politician doesn't have the right to learn more about an issue, and adjust their policies to be more correct.
Just as long as they don't do it too often.
When a politician has taken a career-long stance on something that I am passionate about, and they quickly backtrack just in time for a campaign, I have to raise my eyebrow.
I've already mentioned how I think Giuliani should pretty much be given the boot. I like him for a lot of reasons... for instance, I really think he is serious about being tougher on criminals. Still, I'm not sure I can forgive him for his stance (past especially, but present as well) on gun control. His statement ~ "what works for NY may not be right for Montana" doesn't sit well with me. Clearly, he has a strongly anti-gun history. But he either doesn't really understand the issue, or (more likely) he is trying to pander to the widest base... constitution be damned.
I might be able to support him if he puts his hand on a bible and swears he will not sign any gun control legislation, no matter what.
