WVU Ranked No. 4 In GARC
At my alma mater, the rifle team has been an ever-present source of pride for the school. Even when the football team sucked (which thankfully they don't anymore) you could always look to the rifle team for national championships. A few years back when the school tried to shut down the team (for financial reasons) and the entire state banded together in support. Elected representatives were told by their constituents, in no uncertain terms, that the Mountaineer Rifle Team is part of the heart of the state. The Governor got directly involved. Tax money was appropriated directly to the team, and a massive amount of fund raising took place. In the end, the team was spared.
Now, they are getting back into their rhythm. We've always had great shooters, and more often than not had great overall teams. A #4 ranking is a big step towards recovering from being shut down. Of course, it's just the first step. The next step is moving to #1.
Go Mountaineers!
Oh, and by the way, if you are ever in Morgantown during the Rifle Team fund-raising "Gun Bash", your tickets to the event will (obviously) support the team, but also enter you into some seriously awesome drawings for firearms/trucks/ATVs/etc. |
