Aside from the Labor Day "Law and Order" marathon... I pretty much just watched football. I took the boat up to Weeki Wachee for some more scalloping with friends on Sunday morning, but we were done by 10am. The best day of the weekend was Saturday.
WVU smooshed West Michigan 62 to 24. That, of course, was a no-brainer. We looked good, but we really have to work on our defense some. We may have slaughtered a no-name team, but that kind of D won't cut it against Louisville. Still, it was a good shakedown game, and I'm sure Rodriguez has a clear picture of what we need to do. I was lucky enough to watch the game at Beef O'Brady's in South Tampa, surrounded by Gold and Blue. There were probably a hundred WVU fans at the WVU Tampa Bay Alumni shin-dig.
The other Mountaineers (Appalachian State) pulled off a huge upset against Michigan. Sure, it was only 34 to 32, but if you watched the entire game, you'll know that App State won the game before the nail-biting end. Michigan pushed back as hard as they could to make it out of their hole, but that mountain spirit just doesn't give up. I love seeing upsets like that. What a bad weekend for Michigan football.
Oh, and Florida State... man. I didn't watch the entire game, but I did watch it long enough to know that Clemson would win. It wasn't a huge defeat points-wise, but it was a big upset against a ranked team. Clemson just looked good. They came out swinging. Florida State looked like crap. It didn't help that FSU was greeted by a stadium packed with loud'n'rowdy orange-clad fans. Any team who has played at WVU knows that overwhelming feeling. I don't think that is indicative of how they'll play the rest of the year, but they better make up for that loss when they play UAB. |
