Re: Days of our Trailers, Say Uncle and Gun Talk, et. al.
I'm on the "let 'em post" side... however if they are becoming really disruptive, there's no reason not to give 'em the boot. I don't think JadeGold was that disruptive... stupid yes, disruptive no. I've had a few anti-gun comments, and I relished the opportunity to tear them apart. But the poster has never been particularly insistent. I'm not sure if it is because they lost interest, or perhaps because they saw the light just a little bit.
Or... you could apply the Fark methodology. Take the comments of unruly posters, and edit them to be something funny. Sure, it sounds dishonest. But if you'll look at the notice at the bottom of my site, it reads: "I have the absolute power to remove/modify/edit anything that is posted on this site." I won't modify anyone's post without telling everyone that I've done it. All I've ever done is removed a few dupes.
Now, keep in mind that I don't think you should change a post in their name to espouse a view that isn't theirs... that really is dishonest. But changing a few choice words to "puppy" or "unicorn" is just plain funny.
"Assault unicorns have no place in our society. Any unicorn that holds more than five bumblebees should only be owned by puppies."
If you end up having to do it too often, fine, ban them. |
