"Our rights come from God, not the government." Good Statement.
Read between the lines: "an old dude like me banging a hot wife and making babies..."
Anti-abortion via an economics discussion? "After all, it's their money we're spending." Strange. Interesting.
Diplomacy and economic power key for foreign policy.
Parents' choice of schools for kids... this is old-hat. I want to know more about what he's thinking about here.
Truly market-driven health insurance for lower consumer costs... How's he gonna do this? Deregulate? Force insurance companies to do certain things?
Protecting the border == protecting our nation's sovereignty. Right on.
These are just initial thoughts. But he lays out his platform pretty well. Nothing I particularly disagree with, but that is the point of a well-crafted political speech, right?

Do you seriously believe anything he says? Just because he can manipulate you with his well-written script doesn't mean he believes in anything he espouses.

Re: Initial thoughts on Fred\'s Announcement Video
By default, I don't believe what any politician says, other than Ron Paul perhaps. But in the end, we're going to end up with someone. I think Thompson is less of a bullshitter than any of the other top candidates. He is still a politician, but he doesn't pander to the lowest common denominator like Rudy or Hillary. Besides, Fred Thompson's votes in the Senate put him as a dead-center moderate.
He certainly isn't a libertarian, which is unfortunate, but he's electable and his stated views more closely match mine than any of the other top candidates. I think he'll do well in debates. I think he'll be better at communicating with his constituents.
I've already discussed Rudy at length. I think he'd do better on a Democratic ticket than the Republican ticket, honestly. McCain is pretty much done. Tancredo and Hunter are both pretty good, but have no name recognition yet. There are no Democrats I'd consider voting for at this point. Barrack has said too many incredibly stupid things at this point. He's an idealist, and I admire him for that, but he just doesn't have what it takes. Hillary is cold and calculated. She panders in the worst possible way. She doesn't offer anything other than a promise to sign feel-good legislation, tax increases. She isn't in this to help restore and maintain our rights. None of the other Democrats have what it takes to win the party's nomination.
Think about this... Bush and Cheney have pretty much raped the constitution, giving a huge amount of power to the White House. Is there a likely candidate out there who will give that easily abused power back? I don't think so. Think about who you want inheriting that power!
