Teacher demands to carry gun in school
According to the article, it would seem, she is in the clear legally. But employers can generally fire people for violating their rules, no matter how stupid or dangerous they are. Self defense is a human right, and nobody should be able to demand that you leave the best self defense tool available at home.
"If an employee violates our policy, it isn't a crime," Gerking said. "We just have the right to restrict our employees from carrying dangerous weapons on school property" as a matter of policy. The gun isn't dangerous in and of itself. If she is trained, and keeps the gun concealed, then why is anyone put at risk simply by the presence of a gun?
Kids still aren't allowed to have guns (that doesn't mean they never will, they just have to break the law to get one.) But an otherwise law-abiding teacher who has an honest need for a defensive weapon should not be punished for providing for her own safety. |
