After reporting (with the typical incorrect usage of the term "assault rifle") on the shooting in Omaha yesterday, they just had to bash the President and lie about the NRA.
Bush, a longtime ally of the powerful National Rifle Association, which insists on the almost unrestricted right of Americans to own firearms, is unlikely to endorse any new gun control legislation.
First, Bush isn't a particularly great supporter of the NRA. When did he ask congress to repeal a bad gun law? When did he promote a bill for nationwide right to carry?
Second, the NRA has helped gun control advocates push for more restrictions, in return for some compromises. So stop lying about the NRA, and getting the facts wrong about everything else.
The shooting was a tragedy. And like 99% of tragedies, it could have been avoided. But it wasn't, and we have to live with it. Think long and hard about what new gun control legislation is going to do to prevent this kind of thing from happening again. Once you come to the conclusion that additional gun control wouldn't have stopped this deranged criminal, we can start working on making America safer.
The first step is promoting healthy, loving families. The second step is removing dangerous people from society, and keeping them removed. The third step is to cut out the nanny state crap, and let people be individuals again. When you train people to believe that nothing could possibly be their own fault, they'll do whatever they can to blame other people for their problems. When you demand that people accept responsibility for their actions, you have a healthier society.
