From Chapter 790.33, regarding exemption from the 3-day waiting period for handguns; I knew that the following individuals were exempt: CWP holders, someone trading in another handgun, law enforcement or correctional officers, and licensed firearms dealers. What I was not aware of was subsection 6, which reads:Any individual who has been threatened or whose family has been threatened with death or bodily injury, provided the individual may lawfully possess a firearm and provided such threat has been duly reported to local law enforcement.
That's interesting. I must admit, I've complained quite a bit about the waiting period, as it affects those in dire need of a good and immediate means of self defense (such as domestic violence victim.) While this isn't perfect, it is better than I thought.
I still object to the mandatory waiting period, on the grounds that you should be able to acquire a handgun for self defense when faced with an implied threat (which may not qualify under this sub-section), or in the case where reporting the threat to the police is not an immediate possibility. |
