    Situational Awareness in Your Home Comment

    First of all, don't ever just open your door when you hear a knock. If you don't have a peep-hole, or a similar means of viewing the caller, then you need to get one. If you do open the door, then make sure you are in a position to deal with any threat that may arise. Situational awareness isn't just for dark alleys and late nights in mall parking lots.

    I'm not saying you should only answer your door with a shotgun in your hand (boy would that be fun with Jehovah's Witnesses though.) However, it never hurts to prepare yourself for trouble when you hear an unexpected knock on the door.

    When I first started carrying, my wife was mortified that I would even think about carrying around the house. Over time, I simply wouldn't disarm when I got home from time to time. Eventually she got used to hugging me and feeling the butt of the Glock on my side.

    Now, she doesn't seem to even notice. So, as much as I can, I pack when I'm at home. It doesn't bother me, isn't uncomfortable (in fact, at home I don't have to worry about printing or any of that crap), and is no more effort than putting on my pants.

    I always answer the door armed.

    I answer my door with my gun\'s grip in my hand while standing as much out of the doorframe as possible. With any luck it\'ll never matter, but if it becomes necessary, I hope to give some badguy the suprise of his life.
