Saturday evening I met Robb at the range. Boy was it packed. Lots of younger gals shooting, which is rather normal for this particular range. Guy two lanes down shooting his .44mag "small penis" Desert Eagle... I make fun, but secretly I want one. Robb agreed with me that shooting next to someone with a ridiculously percussive firearm helps your flinch... because if you are going to flinch, you already did when he unloaded a magazine full of "make your eyeballs vibrate" rounds.
Love my new Kel-Tec P32. I shot 1 box of FMJs, and had no failure-to-fire, or failure-to-feed, although there was one failure-to-eject on the last round in the magazine when my friend was shooting it. I am happy with the trigger, and the "pointability" of it. The sights were adequate for out to about 15 yards, where I was able to shoot minute-of-badguy. I can't see ever using a P32 to shoot at something more than 15 yards away, so that's fine. Without using the sights (simple point shooting) I was able to hit CoM at about 5 yards, no problem. I had no problem shooting the gun one- or two-handed, and recoil was more than manageable. My friend who is in the market for a self defense weapon said she really liked it. She's still leaning towards a revolver, but is now considering a Kel-Tec or something similar.
I also got my new Mossberg 702 out, and shot a few magazines off-hand, just to make sure things were functioning properly. The rifle range was too crowded, so I just shot it on the pistol range. I did have a little bit of a problem with the sights on it, possibly because my eyesight isn't what it once was. Next time I go out, I'll try shooting it from the bench, wear my glasses, and try to see how accurately I can shoot it. It also functioned just fine, although the follower in the magazine did seem to get jammed "up" after the last round is fired (requiring a hefty smack against the table to fix the problem.) I'm pretty sure this is just because it is new and needs to be worn in a little bit. If it continues to do this, I'll just take out some fine sandpaper to the edges. It is an extremely cheap gun, and I'm glad that it looks like it will be a perfectly OK plinking and first-time-newbie gun.
No pics this time. |
