Only had luck with original russians, and repros that look EXACTLY like the original russians.
These should have edges that are curled over, and flat on the edges and sides closest the bullet on a loaded round. Some get worn out so you might consider testing them by loading them up with 5, and giving them some vigorous shaking to see if any rounds fall loose.
It good ones won't allow rimlock in my M39. Not even when I try.
I have some repros that didn't work well when I got them, but after some tweaking, they are acceptable. They came way too tight, and had no curled-over corner, so a little time with some pliers, and I got them right.
Of course, I don't fire my M44 that much, so mostly the stripper clips are just a good way to organize my loose ammo
