According to Washpo (and lots of other news sources):
A majority of the Senate and more than half of the members of the House will file a brief today urging the Supreme Court to uphold a ruling that the District's handgun ban violates the Second Amendment.
I am mostly happy about this because that means there are more than a few Dems on board. If your Senator or Representative didn't sign on, I would suggest sending them a letter asking why.
I'm not sure if the briefing will be good, or just "we support the individual right, but similarly restrictive laws are OK." However, it sounds really good to say that 250 Representatives and 55 Senators support an individual right, and support overturning the ban. Clear proof that gun control is a losing issue.
Update:
According to this list, both my senator (Martinez, R) and representative (Bilirakis, R) signed on. In fact, 17 of 25 Florida Representatives signed on.
Update 2:
All three of WV's Representatives (Capito, R; Mollohan, D; Rahall, D) signed on. Neither of WV's senators (Byrd, D; Rockefeller, D) signed on. |
