While doing a bit of research on the Florida Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, I came across this old debate between Arthur Hayhoe (director of FCSGV) and Marion Hammer (former NRA president, and current board member.)
Nothing really changes, does it? The anti-gun groups have pretty much given up on the castle doctrine, since none of their nightmares have come true. I do find it amusing that in this interview, Hayhoe says "The concealed carry law is not the problem". When will the anti-gunner say "oops, I was wrong about that"? Marion rightly accused him of hysteria about the original concealed carry law in Florida, and opines that the outcome of the expanded castle doctrine will be identical (i.e. - less crime, not innocent victims.) That was 3 years ago, and once again, Mrs. Hammer's statements prove to be correct.
My question now is, where is FCSGV? Did you look at their website? Most of the links are dead. There is no content whatsoever. Does the organization still exist? The don't seem to have much of a web presence, and you don't hear about them in the news either. It seems there is a PO Box is Wesley Chapel, but that is also where Mr. Hayhoe lives... could it be that FCSGV is (or was, as the case may be) Arthur Hayhoe?
Oh, by the way, click on the "Join" button. Heh.
Update: Never mind... multiple sources have confirmed that FCSGV is just a one-member organization "supported" by an ineffective national umbrella group. I was just wondering what the old man is up to these days. |
