I thought I had picked good classes this semester, but honestly, I'm not learning anything new or exciting. In my advanced algorithms class, we are doing the same stuff we did in undergraduate algorithms, except slightly harder problems (i.e. solving recurences for algorithms with probability elements... bah.) I want to take more complexity and graph theory courses, but after a certain point, there is nothing in CS and I have to take Math classes. Maybe I should just do that. Of course, it will mean taking classes downtown, instead of exclusively on the engineering campus... that might suck.
My other class this semester is aimed at doctoral students looking for a research topic. That would be neat, except the class itself is a waste of time. We certainly have fun... we play around a lot with neat little toys... but its nothing I couldn't do on my own. In fact, I have done a lot of it on my own before.
I've considered dropping my classes this semester, and focussing on work, and getting our new house up and running... but I've never dropped an entire semester before, except when I got mono at RIT. I kinda feel dropping an entire semester means that I did something wrong... that I failed in some way. |
