Um, somehow I doubt that.
Firearm "accidents" like this are always tragic. The problem I have is how they are treated by the press, and even by knowledgeable gunnies. First of all, guns don't just "go off" and kill someone. You have to point it in an unsafe direction while it is loaded and pull the trigger, all at the same time. If you fail to do one of those things, there will be no tragic injury or death.
Second, I don't like the term "accident". "Negligent" is more appropriate, because every gun owner has an absolute duty to learn the rules of gun safety. Every new gun comes with safety rules printed in the manual. Every shooting range lists the rules on the wall. There is really no excuse not to know the rules. Failing to follow them is negligence.
The man in this article apparently had several guns, which tells me he probably wasn't new to shooting. He was carrying a loaded handgun with his finger probably on the trigger, which discharged and killed him after he slipped and fell. You never carry an unholstered loaded gun from place to place, unless you can guarantee the muzzle is always pointed in a safe direction, and your finger remains off the trigger. At a gun range, it is better to unload the firearm before transporting it. This should be common sense, but unfortunately, it is lack of common sense that keeps causing these unneeded tragedies.
