I like simple websites... not a lot of bells and whistles... flash, java, animation, etc... all a bunch of crap. I want my site to look as good in Lynx as it does in Mozilla. Unfortunately, plain-text sites are a complete drag, and generally harder to read/navigate. So I added a little bit of an interface, some basic graphics, and lotsa back-end code that does all the real work. People tend to bitch when a site is ugly. I think simplicity and elegance are beautiful, but apparently graphics make more people happy. Ok, and maybe I'm too lazy to spend much time on graphics. So sue me.
Anyway, you are probably asking, "where is he going with all of this?" I really just wanted to whine about it at length before I announced the new feature, you may or may not have noticed, namely an extra graphic in the upper-right hand of my website. It changes with the season, and there are special graphics for all of the major holidays. The best thing is, it does it all by itself. All I have to do is make sure there are images there, and my beautiful little associative array full'o'dates will produce the correct picture for the correct day.
Ok, so at this point you must be asking, "was a simple little graphic worth this much of a post?" The answer is... probably not, but I have nothing better to post about anyway. |
