My name is Gregory Morris, and I run the pro-gun website/blog "West, By God" (http://www.westbygod.net). I recently came across the AFI website I was wondering if you could take a few minutes and answer some questions for me. Your response will be posted on my blog.

1. When was AFI founded? What was the reasoning behind it? What Second Amendment advocacy need(s) does AFI fill?

Founded in 2007 to provide a central depository of statistics information to visitors about the reality of firearms and gun crime. Designed to counter the frantic and illogical crying of the gun-control lobby. We also carry information on the history of firearms, how firearms are used (for beginners), a glossary and terminology.

2. How does AFI and their efforts differ from that of other Second Amendment advocacy groups (such as the NRA, GOA, JPFO, SAF, NSSF, etc.)?

AFI is similar to many of the existing organizations. Our emphasis is in becoming a part of the community of gun advocacy and by doing so to enhance all of the members of the community. Some of information AFI has sources are unique and many are shared. We have links to the top 10 other advocacy groups for visitors or members who want to further their research.

3. Briefly, what are AFI's short- and long-term goals? What do you see as AFI's focus over the next 5 or 10 years?

Our focus is only short term. This is because 2nd amendment advocacy is a day-to-day issue. We cannot take anything for granted about the future as this can lead to complacency and complacency leads to errors and errors to doom and the loss of our rights. Eternal Vigilance are the watch words.

4. Does AFI lobby state legislatures or the US Congress? If so, what issues and legislation has AFI proposed or supported?

Not yet. We do however seed blogs in the time we have available to counter any negative anti-gun or anti 2nd amendment articles we see in the media. Lately we were active in supporting the Supreme Court ruling for our gun rights arguing that the second amendment is about freedom of choice – the choice to choose to have a firearms or not. Change to the 2nd amendment means that everyone’s freedom of choice is in danger.

5. Does AFI support or organize any real-world events?

We support all and any NRA events. Our management are NRA members and AFI are an NRA business partner. Management are qualified NRA instructors.

6. Can you list any of AFI's accomplishments to date?

Compiled a database of key gun data and research archives. Developed and launched the AFI site which is free to everyone. Anyone who wants to join is free to do so for a token $14.95. There’s a lot of information about firearms available on our site that is easy to access and navigate. We’re also giving away a Beretta 92FS, free. Whether you know a little or a lot about guns, www.americanfirearms.org will educate the visitor.

7. In one or two sentences, can you explain AFI's mission?

To educate visitors about the dynamics of our rights as Americans where it comes to firearm ownership. To provide solid information to counter anti-gun rhetoric. To expand interest in legal individual firearm ownership, responsibility and enjoyment. The American Firearms Institute; the thinking persons guide to firearms. Supporting your right to keep and bear arms.
