At least on the battle over the meaning of the Second Amendment.
Every other gun blog has already posted this, or will be in the morning. But it still feels good every time I read:"We've lost the battle on what the Second Amendment means. Seventy-five percent of the public thinks it's an individual right. Why are we arguing a theory anymore? We are concerned about what we can do practically."
Unlike a lot of people, I think a good ruling in the Heller case will just give the Brady Campaign some more fuel. I think it might win them some fence-sitters when they say "see, we can't take away your guns." Of course, we all know even with the supreme court ruling an all-out ban unconstitutional, there can still be near-bans, like in NYC and Chicago. There can still be draconian rules and impossible-to-follow regulations. More anti-gun legislation can still make life a living hell for gun owners. We're gonna have to overturn some of these near-bans before things will really start looking good for the constitution.
The good thing here is that we are on the offensive, and they have their backs to the wall. I know they'll try use their SCOTUS loss as a tool to win more gun control, but we still have the high ground. We are winning overall, and we have momentum. The Go term is Atari. They don't have many options, but they have to make a move to stay alive. Expect it right after the election. |
